@bajawildencounters: Please read full caption about an example of a great orca encounter within the new swimming with orca regulations. Please note that despite seeing this on social media a lot, this is not a very common encounter and you have to be very lucky to have the privaledge of having the orca show up. Let's set the scene. We saw in the distance multiple boats in one area and instantly we thought it was going to be a mess. Thankfully, and proudly, it was not. The captains had all organised themselves, creating a file system, and taking it in turn to see the orca. At first, no one was jumping in. Everyone was watching their behaviour and the pods of orca were swimming calmly and slowly. Which, if you have seen in the past, this is complete polar opposite of how la ventana was when orca were present (boats fighting to get in, everyone chasing, crowding the pod, cutting infront to drop people right in front) so to see organisation made us feel really relieved. Not saying it's perfect, it wasn't, but it was 100x better than it was prior, and this is showing the positive affect of the new regulation! Boats took turns, keeping a distance, it was our turn, we pulled into position with the boat well ahead and to the side of the pod, dropped in, we told our guests in the briefing, do not swim towards the orca, stay patiently waiting (which you can see our guests doing) and wait for the orcas to pass by you and if they feel comfortable, they will sometimes be curious and actually come close to you, rather than you swimming at them and pushing them away. And that's exactly what you can see in the video. A nice calm pod of orca swimming by. At the end even the calf comes for a closer look! We appreciate that posting this video can encourage people to want to do this and in tern it may even have people go with operators that may push boundaries. We can't stop that unfortunately. Our goal is to encourage people, if they are coming here (and large numbers of people are already coming here as everyone already knows) we want you all to think about the approach to the animals, the operator, and hopefully good practises continue across the area 🙏🏽
