I once saw a salary man eating his Onigiri — which looked absolute scrumptious and I asked him how he made it.. His eyes kind of lit up and we talked a lot, then he told me a little about his life 😭 or store clerks complimented ngl made me super happy ❣️

I kind of feel this way in the sense of being neurodivergent. It feels like everyone knows how to act around others and be understood, and i dont. It’s very lonely

Someone who doesn’t know the rules of being distant, can bring people closer to each other and I think that‘s beautiful

I feel lonely as foreigner in japan too. I can’t speak to anybody. But what you said is true, I can relate.

No matter where I am, I always try to bring a smile when I’m buying something. Even in Spain (where I’m from), being cheerful when dealing with shop assistants helps bring a smile out of them—even if you can tell they aren’t in a great mood. Sometimes you just have to take the first step and people will follow! I’m sure it’s not weird or impolite to do, even in Japan 😊

My first goal once I'm settled in Japan is to make as many Japanese friends as I can, I hate seeing people being lonely and if a simple interaction would change that I would be more than happy to share my my joy and friendship to as many people who deserve it! <3

It's my first trip and I'm in Japan right now. The trains sometimes have people talking but half the time it's dead silence, not a single smile. It feels like because there are so many people - everyone feels the need to be respectful by being robotic and not disturb anyone. You, we, are all beautiful individuals. Smile at each other. Sometimes that's all it takes to make another person's day ☺️

I’ve lived in Japan for 5 years and one of my favorite things to do is treat workers like they’re actual people and it genuinely makes them smile lol

I just recently went on a 2 week trip to Japan and had the best time of my life. I get emotional every time I think about it. Everything from the food, the experiences, the people and nature was so amazing and it felt like I explored a different planet

This is so profound actually. I hope that as time grows humans learn to be more real and nice with each other. Sparks are found in different ways. Try to bridge those gaps you notice and little by little things may get better.

I mentioned getting a Goshuin stamp at the Sasuke Inari shrine to a store clerk, and she got so excited about it that she even showed me her limited edition Goshuin stamp from the temple. It made me happy but also a bit sad, for some reason the interaction felt lonely
