I’ve never found this to be necessary. The close mic on the snare is way louder than the snare in the overheads, so having them different distances from the snare isn’t audible. The snare is also centered in the room mics. Test it for yourself once the kit is all mic’d up. Move one of the overheads and see if the snare moves within the serial field. It won’t. I find it more useful to space the pair over the cymbals.

I find that if I’m using my snare to side chain a compressor on my OH stereo track- the phase relationship becomes less important.
