@_samir6u: Muhammad Ahmad bin Abd Allah (August 8, 1843 – June 21, 1885) was a Sudanese religious leader and revolutionary who led the Mahdist uprising against Turco-Egyptian rule in Sudan. He successfully captured Khartoum in 1885, defeating and killing the British General Charles Gordon, who was serving as Governor-General of Sudan at the time. Following this victory, he moved the capital to Omdurman. He died in June 1885, and his tomb remains in Omdurman to this day. His movement gained sympathy and support from prominent Arab and Islamic thinkers, including Jamal al-Din al-Afghani and Muhammad Abduh. He was succeeded by Abdallahi ibn Muhammad, who continued resisting British forces until he was killed after the Battle of Umm Diwaykarat in 1899.
