as someone who lives in a sea side town in the US... the French tourists are the ABSOLUTE WORST. Rude, expecting everyone to bend over backwards to accomidate their every whim, loud and stingy. No French Lady, I am not going to haggle a price at the THRIFT STORE

I think it’s also we’re so used to being seen as ‘bad tourist’ that we really try our best when we travel. My friend group took basic Japanese lessons before a 2 week trip so we could get around without looking too lost. We ended up surprising a lot of our hotel and restaurant staff and had a great time!

I went to Scotland last summer, and everyone was super nice to me. And some of them did ask me where I was from. They’re still super kind to me.

We are use to tipping in the US.. So we tip everywhere we go. I even gave a pair of shoes away to a kid.

I live in Asia now. Americans have NEVER come up for worst tourists from the locals here. The only people that say that are European tourists. Locals have always ALWAYS told me either British, French, or Israeli tourists are the worst.

Even though Americans can be individualistic and self centered (other countries aren’t on our minds much) we are surrounded by so many cultures daily so we are thoughtful tourists. I love seeing how places and people are different.

When I was in Korea and Japan, I ran into so many lovely American tourists. The troublesome tourists were the europeans(french if i remember correctly); loud, disruptive, rude, literally everything Americans get flamed for. I was in a park, you know a serene quiet place to enjoy nature, and I could hear them speaking (screaming) in what I believe was french ACROSS THE PARK, among other things 💀

Went to Ireland with my family and everyone was very nice. We met fellow Eagles fans there who lived in Ireland. There was a whole store for my state lmao

I’ve only been to Scotland but we have friends there we still keep in touch with. Not one person was rude to us when we visited.

American here who’s lived and traveled abroad: totally agree with this take; I’ve always been amazed at the hospitality from locals in other countries. Sure, I’ve had some very pointed questions about American politics, but it comes from genuine curiosity
