I think one says that to someone, it’s essentially breaking up ahead of time. It’s not that they’re afraid of commitment, more so that they don’t see themselves committing with that person to begin with, but they still want to enjoy their short time benefit of the situationship

I think so many people just get so ahead of themselves and the idea of something. The reality of actually being with someone or even just dating, makes you face the capacity you actually have for another person and it’s unfortunately unfair to the person you are dating that you realize that while someone else is involved. So many people love the idea of being with someone without understanding what that means and that they aren’t ready for it

I got this speech in 2023. 3 years later we finally broke up and she treated me poorly the whole time.

Definitely confusing, but I appreciate the honesty of you're not feeling what I'm feeling. If I'm being played, I don't want or need to know. Go do your thing. It sucks. It hurts, but I'll get over it

i was in a serious relationship in my late 20s that i knew could be great but i wasnt in the place i wanted to be for myself. it took moving, finding new friends, and growing for me to feel like settling down was the right move. who knows if thats this persons truth, but sometimes timing is everything

Shit I’ve been told all that before, but main difference being 1-2 months later after saying she’s not “loving herself” or feels like can’t be enough for a relationship with me, 1-2 months later she’s dating and official dating someone else. I’d rather be told that not interested in me that saying all the extra

I think a *lot* of people are acting out a persona, not just being themselves. They act this way when they feel like keeping up with the persona is too much energy. I think it is pretty rare for someone to have the capacity to be a good partner and also have an unshakeable aversion to commitment. It happens, but I think more often it means they aren't being honest with you (or themselves) about who they are or what they want. In that case, it's probably better for this to happen than to invest more time in them only for the issues to pop up later.
