this isa fantastic visual but it makes me so sad. I barely get to see my daughter anymore and this visual makes it so much more real. we barely use screens so thats not an issue here but its still so sad

I work at a preschool/ daycare. we are open from 6 tot 18. some kids stay there for the full 16 hours. Which is absolutely horrible and extremely long hours for those kids. We do not have a single screen in the entire building that is accessible to the kids. We only have radio's for music. never once have I needed a screen

I love this but sadly they are working on screens all day at school.

Equally, if you never start with the screen, you never have to take it away 🤷♀️

Tonie boxes or yoto players are great for eliminating screen time too!! I’m a stay at home mom to a 2 year old, and I’m proud to say we’ve finally gotten to the point where we only watch a little tv on weekends! I’ve just been including my daughter more in cooking + cleaning that has to be done, and when I really need to just sit down and check out for a minute I lay out all her tonies in front of her and let her shuffle through them and put different ones on her box! If I can do no screens with a toddler for 12 hours every day, you can too!!

Cutting it down like this is why I cried through my whole pregnancy I don’t get home until 6pm and they’ll need to be in bed by 8 so I get enough time to make dinner eat bath and bed so reading a story is the only real time I’ll be able to spend focused on just them and I have twins

Add in practice for activities or sports and homework and there’s even less time 🥺

Wow. That actually breaks my heart because I know there are so many kids that are getting one hour with their kids and it’s on screens.

my kids are so much calmer, kinder and more imaginative when they are limited or have no screen days. they actually play and laugh and are silly when there's no screens and because they've played hard, they sleep hard. when I see them starting to spiral emotionally, we stop screens or back them way off.

You are assuming that parents have the luxury of picking them up at 3 there are parents who have kids going to after care and they put them on screens as a break!

Parenting without screens is so much easier overall than parenting with screens, and I will die on this hill. Humans have existed for millennia without them, and have been better for it. Kids can play independently, be bored, be creative, play with friends, play outside, and a million other things that are actually good for them. And like you pointed out, the squeeze of life with two working parents and kids in school is all the more reason to not use screens at all on weekdays. That precious time together should be used for things that are actually good for everyone, like family togetherness and outdoor play and conversation.

my kids can use tv as background noise, but we only do tablets on the weekends and limited to 1-2 hours a day, if we have time. my oldest is wanting a phone and im still trying to figure out how we will navigate that so it doesnt get out of control but I haven't figured that out so we arent starting that yet

parents. the screens are the problem. our parents did it without them, so did our grandparents. we can do this!

I was very fortunate to be able to work in child care and my kids went to work with me and neither they were in the same room I was in or in the next room which I seen them throughout the day. also my kids never went to bed until at least 8:30 or 9:00 so I had from 6:00 p.m. when I got off work until 8:30 or 9:00

Actually I spend about 15 waking hours a day most days with my preschooler and with the exception of the one year I plan to send them to public school it will probably stay that way. If they want to watch tv while eating or while I shower they will

Problem is my first graders are on their tablets in the morning and watching tv until bed (up too late bc the screen makes them awake.)

Saw a kid at a kids baseball game glued to the phone bc parents don’t want to interact with them. Many parents don’t say “no” or spend quality time.
