Batman’s no kill rule is because he knows himself very well and knows he shouldn’t kill because if he starts, he’s going to do it more.

When people talk about how "the no kill rule is stupid" it really shows how little they pay attention and have almost no understanding of the character.

Also Joker used to be a redeemable character, people began questioning Bruce’s no kill rule when the writers began making him insanely evil

THIS. The no kill rule is so much more nuanced than “I’m a good guy” it always has to be tied to the person behind the mask

I also think many of Batmans villains aren't portrayed as well as they should be. A big part of his no kill rule is because he also believes in reformation which is sometimes shown but often his villains become one note repeats who can't morally develop since his comics need to keep going.

Spider-Man and Daredevil are both like Superman in the sense that they don't want to kill, but will if that's the only option

I can't remember which version of Batman said it but it was something along the lines off "I'm just as crazy as joker or any other villain but by not killing joker or the others I stop myself from being as evil as them"

Batman also believes in reform, he is always helping his villains get the help they need, Harley, Harvey, Ivy, Killer Croc, and Clay face. At many points in the comics and shows he was able to help them. He believes that everybody can be reformed, which that includes the joker

I fully believe that Batman is the reason for gotham being so awful. The criminals are just going to become worse and worse when they know they're just gonna be put in a jail with the worst possible security for 3 months. If he wasn't there I feel one of the other heroes in DC would take over, and they DO NOT mess around. Also Batman existing invites more and more criminals oddly enough

El Verano :
No kill rules make sense when you realize a good person doesn't want to be judge, jury, and executioner. I think the injustice storyline shows that well, Superman could go around and make things better in the short term but eventually you're just a benevolent dictator

Counter point to no kill rules being wrong: The legal systems in these universes are terribly corrupt and incompetent

I love DD’s no-kill rule how he’s constantly at odds with himself bc he WANTS to but can't bc of his faith in both law and religion. It's peak 🙏

Society :
Because of horrible adaptations and modern depictions people think Wonder Woman is a heartless murderer but she’s a diplomat at heart, she always reaches out her hand before turning it to a fist and views killing as a failure, and thinks that even if you live as a bad person doesn’t mean you have to die as one

the problem with the No Kill Rule is mostly a matter of meta context. when the character has been around for +80 years and the prisons and asylums have revolving doors for career criminals, the Rule starts to just not make sense

Why do people think Superman doesn’t have a “no kill rule” when there are so many comics where Superman straight up says “Superman must never kill” and this has been a major consistent moral of the character

skeletorlifehax :
Batman in particular has a no-kill rule not just because of his morality, because of his relationship to the police. He has at times been fully deputized by Gordon to do what he does and that requires a certain level of restraint because he needs the police work to stick.
