u brought up a GREAT point w tipping culture but in the same breath the example u provided is why they feel the way they do! america has a lot of problems but we can still do $600 bday dinners like it’s normal and in Gh that’s not the case unfortunately😕

It’s not just the tipping tho. I’m Ghanaian ethnically but have lived most my life in U.S. so I kind of understand both perspectives a bit. Most Ghanaians don’t travel, if they do travel it’s not to the west. In places like America we always look like we have money because many people in U.S that are middle class can drive cars like Toyota or Honda, cars that are considered luxury in ghana. Majority of us carry iPhones, and MacBooks, like stuff that is unattainable for the average person in ghana. Like I owned a car before I even graduated college in America, yet my uncle in ghana who is working cannot afford a car. Like stuff like that makes us look very rich to them. And because they have never experienced America before they don’t understand that though the average American looks rich to them, the average American is in debt, paying off a mortgage, or car insurance, car note, bills bills bills😭 so we are actually not rich in US and everything is on credit. But in Ghana there is not a super big credit system. Most everyone owns what they have in Ghana. So if they’ve never traveled they assume yeah Americans are all rich cause look at all this that they have. So yeah, if you got an accent they gone charge you extra. They charge me extra too even though I speak the language and everything and am a Ghanaian😭😭😂😂 America/the west in general just has hype in Ghana, before I moved to America I literally thought America as a kid was this perfect land with no need. For a lot of people that have never traveled in Ghana that is their mind set too♥️so yeah I think it’s hard for them to imagine that anyone can lack in America.
