There are basketball players who put up stats, basketball players who win championships, and basketball players who become legends. Then there is LeBron James a player whose career has become so massive that it feels impossible to explain with numbers alone. To many fans, LeBron is not just an athlete. When LeBron entered the NBA in 2003, the expectations placed on him were unfairly huge. He was labeled “The Chosen One” before even playing a professional game. Most players would crumble under that pressure. Sports history is filled with athletes who were called the next big thing and never lived up to the hype. But LeBron somehow became even better than people imagined. That is part of why basketball fans feel grateful for him. Usually hype creates disappointment. With LeBron, the hype somehow underestimated reality.
From the beginning, LeBron looked different. At 6’9” and over 250 pounds, he had the strength of a power forward, the speed of a guard, and the vision of an elite point guard. Basketball had seen dominant scorers before. Basketball had seen elite passers before. Basketball had seen athletic freaks before.
