Every time the Other Mother invites a child into the other World, she’s secretly trying to find her younger self and convince Coraline to stay. If young Coraline accepts the button eyes the time loop closes and the beldam (lonely future Coraline) is never created. Thats why the other mother knows so much about coraline.. all her dreams and wishes, she’s not reading her mind she remembering being her. I think that the cat knows because he was never fazed anything, he never called the other mother by a name because he knew it was coraline in decades to come.. he’s been watching the same time loop repeat for centuries hoping one version of coraline will finally break it. The other world is built by the beldam; a perfect vision of her memory living in the pink palace. If coraline accepts the button then the beldam will never exist. The other farther and wybie played a big part in the other world because the beldams memories of them from being a kid were always positive. Thats my theory I hope there isn’t any spelling mistakes and I hope you all understand x

The little boy in the painting is the other mothers son, they used to live in the house wich is why there’s a painting of him, she tried to eat him to survive and he almost made it out (you can see his outfit in the tunnel) but due to his mum not being human he’s also not quite human, his soul was transferred to the cat which is why he has the same eyes, can travel through worlds and try’s to deter the kids from going in there, that’s why she didn’t like him, and why she couldn’t keep him out, because he’s not dead or alive, just a trapped soul

My Coraline theory is that she entered the Beldam’s world as a baby and was trapped there. Growing up, she watched the Beldam lure other kids and heard stories about their normal lives. I think time moves differently there too, so when Coraline saw Wybie’s grandma escape while her sister stayed trapped, she realized she’d never escape herself. That broke her psychologically, so her subconscious created the “normal” world where she had already escaped, using other people’s stories because she has no real concept of normal. That’s why her fantasy is boring: being bored, annoyed, and having normal problems IS a luxury to her. Eventually her real memories start leaking in, so the “Other World” is actually reality breaking into her fantasy. Even the temptations come from watching the Beldam lure other kids. At the end she doesn’t escape, her mind resets the fantasy, and the loop repeats until she can’t tell what’s real anymore.

OK, hear me out about this theory, but I think the boy in the painting is the beldams child and he found out about who she really was, and he tried to leave, but the beldam killed him, and his soul turned into the cat, which can go between the real world and the beldams world, and from seeing all the other kids that died, he tried to help Coraline by telling her what was gonna happen and helping her get out and that’s why the other mother hates the cat so much and you can also see how their eyes are the same color.

My theory: I heard this on another post like this. The 3 ghost kids facial expressions are stuck like that because it’s how they looked when they got the button eyes. One was screaming. One was confused. And one was asleep.
