I would like to thank the TikTok Therapy Community for my AUDHD diagnosis at the tender young age of SIXTY-ONE!!!

The ADHD gets a cortisol hit which is energy. We can get addicted to the replay because the energy it gives. We retraumatize ourselves because it’s a familiar emotional hit. 🍄‍🟫 helped me integrate. When the emotional pain is gone and you have expectance, the stimming the memory experience stops. You can still remember but you’re more in control. (Speaking from my experience only)

This is such a great analogy. I feel like many of us will replay certain scenarios and ponder them from different angles. And for those best that are excessively empathetic, we look for opportunities to do better when in actuality we probably were the victim.

Everything you just said is what drives me to therapy. I've always used the analogy that I have rows and rows of boxes of shelves in my brain. I'm good when all the lids are on. I know it's time to go when all the lids are off and everything thing is floating out at once and I can't get the lids back on. I don't know if that makes me neurodiverant but this is spot on.

I can deeply relate to this. I have autism and ADHD. Sometimes I joke that having an excellent memory sucks because I can remember every traumatic incident in great detail and recall it and replay it like a movie. I’ve warned people around me not as a threat, but as a true reality that they should never hurt me or harm me because I will remember everything in detail and it makes it hard to forgive. Rumination is a real problem with me and I actually take medication for it because I ruminate in and have OCD like behavior and thought processes.

Rumination about my childhood has been never-ending my entire life. I agree with what you said

This is really fascinating and I appreciate you sharing this definition. I think we know that our nervous systems are sort of always doing this, recording and replaying events that get overlayed onto our present experience to help us put things in categories or boxes (see the Icons theory regarding perception) but what I think could be unique in the neurospicy mind from your video and the comments is that neurodivergent people maybe have a lot more access to the videos/memories that are being overlayed onto the present moment. Still thinking about this and thanks again for sharing!

This is an absolutely perfect phrasing of this. I've always considered that term "a life flashing before your eyes" as silly because it's doing that on loop on the daily.

I did EMDR therapy to try to work through this, it was good. HOWEVER, I found a whole load MORE bad memories during the process so it was a wild ride.

mine isn't quite like that. I didn't have an attic growing up or if I did someone sheetrocked over the hatch in the ceiling. But occasionally there were leaks and before there were leaks there were signs. I still don't have all of the pieces and I don't know if I want them but I probably need them and they're in the wall somewhere and I'm just hoping I don't have to tear down the whole house to find it.

I relive every event I talk about (partly). The stronger the reinforcement, the sharper the memory.

CPTSD does pop up. I think of it like waves that hit unexpectedly. A small thing will set it off. EMDR helps. You still remember the trauma but it doesn’t effect the body in the same way. Altho going thru the process can bring up even more detailed memories. It’s a life time of processing. I’m trying to create new happy memories to out weigh the bad stuff.

I tend to intellectualize and suppress emotions. I’ve been changing this… first I would feel out loud and fast. Exhausting. Now I am learning to do it somatically and slowly. It’s working so well. Nervous system regulation starts with safety for me. So the memory is there but don’t need to analyze it or process it intellectually just felt and released physically. For me memory gets stored in the fascia and tissues, I physically feel my body changing and softening as I release. AuDHD too 💓
