I hear what you’re saying and you’re not totally wrong. The Bible does talk a lot about caring for the poor, not being greedy, and looking out for people on the margins. A lot of Christians really do soft-pedal those parts and just use Scripture to back up whatever they already believe. That’s a fair shot. But the leap you’re making is too big. Jesus telling the rich young man to sell everything was specifically for that guy — it wasn’t a permanent rule for every Christian. The sharing in Acts was voluntary and in a unique situation. The Bible also affirms private property and shows faithful people who owned stuff. So “if you really believed the Bible you’d sell all your possessions” just isn’t accurate. Same with calling billionaires fundamentally corrupt. It warns hard against loving money and using it to crush people. It doesn’t say having wealth itself makes you evil. And making eradicating poverty the central tenet of the faith? That’s not it. The center is Jesus — who he is and what he did. Caring for the poor matters a lot, but it’s not the main thing the whole faith hangs on. Also the “stand with the immigrant and oppressed no matter what they’ve done” part skips the justice and accountability pieces. Scripture holds both mercy and justice together. You’re right that people treat the Bible selectively. You’re wrong that a real belief in its authority forces your exact progressive checklist. That’s still just an interpretation.

jokes on you sir, haven't been to church since about 2016. . . every time I think about going back I hear another very religious person say how godly so and so is and I figure me, a Bible and my own conversations with God is just fine!
