ppl are calling Billie a hypocrite because she admired someone she grew up loving and eventually got emotional meeting them do people seriously not understand what childhood admiration is? When someone grows up listening to an artist attaching memories to them and being inspired by them that attachment does not instantly disappear overnight because the internet demands it especially when she became a fan when she was young children and teenagers are not political analysts most people do not spend their childhood researching every celebrity’s beliefs history controversies or political positions before listening to their music that’s not reality and that does not mean they endorse every opinion that artist has ever had so what matters is where Billie stands now and she already made that clear but apparently that still isn’t enough for people because modern cancel culture does not actually care about growth nuance or sincerity it just cares about perfection and perfection is impossible the stage moment especially proves how disconnected people are from reality Billie meeting someone she idolized for years and hugging them on stage is being treated like some calculated political endorsement when it was most likely just a human emotional moment ppl forget celebrities are still people they still have memories and dreams and they still react emotionally sometimes instead of strategically but genuinely imagine dreaming about meeting someone your entire childhood and when you finally get that moment strangers online expect you to pause in that exact second and calculate every possible internet reaction before acting naturally that’s not realistic and honestly, if people are changing their entire political beliefs because they saw a celebrity hug someone that is not the celebrity’s fault that is a problem with the audience a celebrity is not responsible for the critical thinking skills of millions of strangers online and ppl keep saying “she has influence” but influence does not erase individuality if someone abandons their morals because a singer smiled at another singer, then those morals were never deeply rooted to begin with
