My Grandpa made $18 an hour working for my city's waterworks back in 1975, after accounting for inflation we figured out that equals about $114 an hour now.

There’s a 20% loss in buying power from 2020 to 2026. That is actually insane. For example 50k today is 39,657 in 2020

My boomer great aunt was complaining about how entitled kids today are wanting "high salaries" and went on about how hard she had it but made it work on $7.80 at her first job. Meanwhile my first job paid $7.70 35 years later and adjusted for only core cpi she actually made $44/hr...

I'm not even exaggerating whenever I say my grandpa made 2.75 an hour at Ford and my grandma 50 cents an hour at a sew shop in Detroit in the 30s and they could afford their own house, a brand new car, and 3 kids...

And mind you this is a simple take (not saying it in a bad way). If you introduce things like what that 40k got you then vs what the 100k gets you today you'll be even more pissed

Also don’t forget that wages haven’t changed in 40+ years so not only is 100k now worth 40k but we’re still making the same amount they were in 1991 so it’s even worse than you can imagine. Prices haven’t stopped rising but wages never changed

40k in 1991 was well above average. The median personal income that year was about $15,000, which works out to about $37,000 today. Today’s median personal income is considerably higher than that, at around $52,000.
