I’ve often been curious about why, throughout history, so many people have chosen to settle in places where simply staying alive is a struggle.

Fun fact this is in theory is the worlds first documentary called Nanook of the North. But in fact it was mostly staged and so the world’s first documentary is a mockumentary. There are scenes in this movie where you will see A family in their igloo, and in order to film it they actually made a fake half igloo. At the time that this was filmed, Inuit people were still living off the land, and of course, many still live off the land to this day, but were not living in igloos and had houses made of wood by then. Another fun fact about Manoca, the North is that it actually helped create new technology for filming because of how hard it was to film in the Arctic without everything freezing. Also, one other fun fact was that when they finished the film, they showed it to the community who had never seen a movie before ever. And the community had some pretty strong reactions to it
