I feel you so much girl. I had jaw surgery in October 2024. After jaw surgery my bite never got better (It was crooked again) and they thought that it was something muscular, so they did botox, muscular relaxers, hyaluronic acid, physical therapy and nothing worked, after months of thinking what was happening (and it didn’t got better) they took my brackets off and made me took an TMJ MRI and they discover that my disk was displaced/dislocated. I’ve had TMJ issues 10 years ago and they never made me take an MRI before. After that, I changed doctors and now I’m recovering from a TMJ Arthroscopy and currently using a splint for six months to recover and hopefully not having another jaw surgery🥲 sorry if my English is bad, I’m from South America ❤️

You seem fine now talking , what’s the urgency for the surgery ? And does wearing any orthotics any nights or all the time could be solution to avoid surgery ?

Is the new surgery as invasive as DJS? The ortho referred me to a surgeon for my skeletal bite issues but not sure if I want to go through with it… I do have some mild TMJ soreness rn 😭

did they talk to you pre surgery about the health of your tmj? they should be able to see it on all the scans you did and address it before hand

Was it because of bruxism?

Is there any possibility you could have Ehlers Danlos Syndrome? I didn't discover until I was 34 that my TMJ issues are due to hEDS.

Why didn’t you see a physical therapist before surgery & after? Contact the PTBCCT to find one to see if they can help prior to surgery. They can manually change the position of the job which I’m not saying that’s what you need, but they can possibly help with some of that. Inflammation.

I met Dr. Sanovich at a conference and he seems like such a good and honest surgeon. Glad to hear he’s helping you through this. 🫶🏼

Hey! I’ve been through something similar-ish. My fist jaw surgery was 2014, problems persisted (long story), I had 2 arthroscopies and an arthrocentesis, and then in 2024 total bilateral joint replacement of my TMJs. DM me if you wanna chat or have questions!! I’ve been through the absolute ringer with jaw issues my whole life so have lots of experience navigating
