@jet_set_with_jen: Home ownership can be great but wasn't for me. If you've been following I sold my house 1 year ago and rented. After several expensive house projects, this issue makes me grateful I'm renting. Home ownership wasn't for me. #Home #rent #homeimprovement

I think we're approaching the point where older homes are showing their age and newer homes are too expensive and/or have insane HOA fees. I'd rather rent, take the difference, and max out my Roth IRA every year.

Home ownership is over-rated. Everyone says it's a great investment. Really b/c my $350k house is going to cost $500k with interest. Not mention the $40k I've put in for standard repairs (roof, A/C, plumbing) which will likely have to be done another 1-2 times over my 30yr mortgage. Im pro buying but it's an over-rated "American dream".

I don’t know why everyone is hating on home ownership. I bought my first house at 25, completely remodeled it. Now I’m buying my second home that is larger with a lot more acreage and once I sell my first home I’ll pay off both houses and be mortgage free. How does renting give you that opportunity?

I bought my house 6 years ago and I wish I was still renting. The last 2 years everything has fallen apart and I'm looking at over $60,000 to repair. My whole basement wall is starting to fall down. inspector said everything looked great in my house 😭

I am 37. Married and renting my home. Everyone says “don’t you want to put your money into yourself?” Yes! But when shit breaks I don’t deal with it.

I work in the apartment industry and was so excited to close on my house. 2 years later, I cannot WAIT to close on my house and go back to renting.

not saying I could do that repair myself. because I can't.. But owning a home isn't for people who can't do repairs themselves. if you're going to hire everything out that comes up, renting might be a better option. You're going to pay a lot more over a lifetime to rent. the say goes, you'll pay for what you can't do yourself.

Like I understand a house is an investment and guarantees stability but also all I can think is that you are still paying monthly for a mortgage and ALSO you have to pay for all the repairs why would I stop renting

I had to do something similar at mine. Sure it looks bad but rent a tiny backhoe for 200 bucks and you'll be done in a weekend. Its a one time job. My mortgage is 700 bucks and it will never go up.

dont discouraged owning because you bought a junk house. my house is almost 100 years old ive been in it for 4 years and ive done nothing but put money into it to make it better. never had to do anything because of the house only did things ive wanted to do. buy better next time and know what you're looking at.
