A person's life is worth more than a marriage Genuinely traumatised by Mamta Kafle's case. Can we please, as a Nepali community, start normalising divorce when a marriage doesn't work out? A divorced daughter is far better than a dead daughter. Can we please raise our daughters to be independent, to have agency over their own lives, to recognise abuse and, most importantly, to feel safe enough to walk away from an abusive marriage without fearing shame, judgement or rejection from their own families? And when they do decide to leave, can we please welcome them home with open arms instead of asking them to compromise, adjust or think about what society will say? Can we also raise our sons to understand that women are human beings, not possessions. That marriage does not give them ownership over another person. That love is not control, and a partner is never someone you own. Do you understand that you can leave a relationship if things don't work out? You don't get to destroy someone's life because they no longer want to be with you. YOU CAN JUST LEAVE I am genuinely disturbed by the Narcissistic guys's testimony describing how Mamta's body was dismembered and disposed of. My heart breaks thinking about her family and everything they are going through. No daughter should have to lose her life because she chose, or wanted, a life beyond an abusive marriage. Let's raise daughters who know they can leave. Let's raise sons who know they have no right to control. And let's build families where coming home after a failed marriage is never considered a failure. A marriage can end. A relationship can fail. A daughter can come home divorced. But none of these things should ever cost her life. My heart breaks for Mamta and her family. She deserved to live. #JusticeForMamta #MamtaKafle #DomesticViolenceAwareness #NepaliCommunity #mamtakafle
