@ribbit.fyi: The treadmill I’m on only feels like it’s moving faster and faster. It’s also troubling looking at the global layoff trends fuelled by AI. Didn’t they say that AI was supposed to make life better? Instead of less work, we’re being asked for more, and the bar of what counts as “enough” keeps getting higher. Who is all this progress for if we feel like we’re more swamped than before? What will the future of work look like for us years from now? Psst, if you’re a Singaporean worker, there’s a Labour Day rally happening with @workersmakepossible @labourdaysg @sgclimaterally on 1 May at Hong Lim Park from 3-7PM! ✊ #labourday #workersrights #futureofwork #worklifebalance #anticapitalism

Many companies haven’t actually seen money/revenue from AI adoption. It’s been overhyped and over-invested in, but sadly a lot of companies won’t realise until after they make their workforce leaner

The overarching problem is capitalism and its nonstop need for profit and exploitation. AI should be used to make our lives easier but the current system doesnt run on that. Its the same thing with factories when they first were introduced to our economy. They should have made our lives easier, but the owners of the tools rather exploit us for more. The solution? Organizing and unionizing to own our workplaces, to demand higher pay, more days off, better/safer working conditions.

It’s ridiculous. It’s like, okay now you have half the time you had for this task before just have ai do half the work and we’ll give you something new. Why do we have to be more and more productive?

one time me and my brother (who is younger) were trying to digitize a few family documents and it was really slow. he asked me if it was stressful getting things done before the internet bc of low it took. my honest answer is that it was less stressful, because there was an assumption that it was ok to take that time and you would get the document to the person on the next day, plus they couldnt text you at night asking about it 😭

The wealthy people have no interest in making workers' lives easier, it's really as simple as that.

I told a co-worker, if we really need to resort to use AI at work to solve some tasks to save time - perhaps we need to question why we feel the need to be that more effective. Maybe we should be given more time, than to let AI do it and the error margins it brings. They push it down our throat yet says we’re responsible for what it spews out. 😵‍💫🫠 And many ppl at work doesn’t question it at all. Which scares me.

capitalism don't care about this. capitalism only care about cost reduction, how to give more money to billionaires and how to make feel miserable but too scared to try to fight against.
