i feel if child can not read for meaning at 3 grade. The child not suppose to be send to the next phase. the foundation phase is very important for children. please we need tutors in schools. each school need 2 or 3 psychologist and social workers in area.

I feel like my teachers in primary school failed me , I attended Gordons Bay Primary I never failed any other grade but grade 7 i went to a main stream school we moved and I was put in that school , The curriculum was different the teaching was different everything for me was different and I struggled because teachers were not patient enough when I didn’t understand the work instead I was told “ you aren’t listening in class “ or teachers that said “ I am only going to explain this once “ teachers that got upset when I asked if It could be explained to me again I was a learner that always asked questions if i didn’t understand anything I did not have a learning disability, my report cards was all good until I got to that school & the year after I repeated grade 7 I was referred to a school of skills at the time we never heard of a school like that & didn’t have knowledge of the grades & what grade I would actually have when I was done there when I got to the school my first term teachers & HODs called me into the office & asked why I am in this school I don’t need to be there because I wasn’t struggling at all from what they have witnessed they wanted to me to go to a main stream high school but when they wanted to transfer me the High School was already full & I was basically forced to complete my 4 Years at that school of skills which is only equivalent to grade 9 , Today i don’t have matric & been struggling for years to find a proper job because I don’t have my matric but this year staring in July I am going to do my matric & i am so proud of myself but disappointed in that school that sent me to a school that I didn’t need to be in & missed a opportunity to get my matric when my peers did because teachers in that school were too lazy to do their job 🤷🏽♀️

Ended up just quiting my job and homeschooling my autistic son, thank God we had the means to do it, but stil it was a endless struggle went from school to school there's not enough schools for our children with special needs

my son is 5 diagnosed with Autism/ADHD. he can read,write,understands 4 languages. he is not in school i am terrified to send him to school

I made a video on this very topic and got a lot of back lash yet I stand on what I said a lot of children are suffering in schools because the system is one dimensional... the dept of education needs to evaluate their system and evolve with the times!! I have a whole lot to say on this topic ! 🥰

i agree i am a teacher and a mother of a special needs child i waited 4 years for a referral for my child from a mainstream to a special needs school. i was lucky i know of kids that waited for more that 5 years for referral.

This is a problem that is happening for the last 20 plus years, our special needs kids are being failed not only at school , but also post school, universities/ colleges does not provide the assistance/ courses tailored for our kids with special needs.
