Teenagers possess a rare "sparkle"—an acute awareness of their own limitless potential, untainted by adult cynicism. While children are oblivious and adults often trade passion for practicality, teens feel the sheer weight and beauty of emotion, experiencing a transitional magic before the responsibilities of the world set in. This liminal stage of adolescence allows teenagers to view the world with a unique blend of high-definition emotion and existential wonder. As people grow older, life "piles up". Adults often trade spontaneity for schedules and passion for practicality. In the process of taking on responsibilities and coping with regrets, many forget how it feels to stay up late dreaming or to believe in something without needing hard evidence. Adulthood builds emotional calluses, causing many to lose that raw, wide-eyed courage to care deeply about the world and their place in it. Children exist in the present, largely unaware of the wider constructs of society, existential meaning, or the permanence of choices. Kids simply experience, whereas teenagers have developed the cognitive ability to contemplate their own identity, their future, and the heavy emotions that come with realizing they are the authors of their own lives.

They learn about courage, then as adults we learn that we can choose between a balance of courage and compliance. Never forget that courage is an option.
