@hedgerow_healing: First-Aid herbs 💚 There are actually SO many herbs you can use for quick first-aid, but these are some of my top 3 beginner-friendly suggestions 🌱 Comfrey 💚 A well-known plant amongst gardeners, but also one renowned in herbal medicine. It is one of the best plants for healing broken bones, sprains and reducing bruising due to its high levels of allotoin which helps regenerate skin cells. Dandelion ☀️ Such a beautiful plant, and one wrapped in folkore! Historically they were used to predict the weather, and the whole plant can be used in food & medicine. The flowers are rich in antioxidants, vitamins & anti-inflammatory compounds that soothes the skin, reduced swelling, fights UV damage and promotes healing of cuts & scrapes. Daisy 🌸 Once called The Days Eye, as it opens its petals as the sun rises and closes them as it sets. The daisy flower is amazing for reducing the risk of infection on the skin, can bring down external swelling from injuries, insect bites and sprains, and reduces pain. To make a poultice: 🌱 Gather the desired herb and quickly rub/crush/grind it until you have released the oils. Either rub this over the affected area, or place on top of the skin as a 'pulp' and seal with a bandage. To make a salve: 🌱 Gather the herb on a dry day, slightky crush or rip the leaves/petals and place in a jar with a carrier oil. Leave infuse for 1-2 weeks. 🌱 In a double boiler, heat up the infused oil for 1-2 hours to draw out the last of the healing compounds. Let cool & return to the jar. 🌱 Strain out the plant matter and place the strained oil back into a double boiler. Melt some organic beeswax pellets and pour into a glass container. Let cool & use as needed. Optional: add in some lavender into the infusion for extra anti-inflammatory & soothing properties, or infuse with calendula oil for added skin healing. . . . . . #firstaid #firstaidherbs #mountaineeringherbs #eryrinationalpark #climbing

Loved this Seren!🌼🌿 Makes me appreciate the dandelion so much more. It got me thinking, the root is just as impressive. You can roast it and make a tea that's great for liver support and digestion. Basically the whole plant is a gift. Have you ever tried the root tea?

In west of Ireland we call those large leaves dog ears, when we were stung on the legs by nettles as a kid, we would grab a dog ear, spit on it, and rub it into the sting to relieve the pain!
