@goliathliftzz: In 1974, East Germany made a decision that would change Olympic history. Medals were no longer just about sport or national pride. They became a tool to prove communist superiority. Their ideology, and their way of building athletes was superior to the rest of the world. What followed was Staatsplan 14.25: a state-controlled program that brought together scientists, doctors, the secret police, and the pharmaceutical industry to engineer results at a national level. Thousands of athletes were placed into this system over the course of two decades. Training was no longer the only variable. Everything was monitored, calculated, and adjusted, including what they were given to enhance performance. The main substance used was Oral-Turinabol, developed by Jenapharm. It was used in a controlled way to maximize strength and recovery while avoiding detection under the testing standards of the time. The results were immediate and hard to ignore. At the 1976 Montreal Olympics, East Germany won 40 gold medals and dominated entire sports, especially swimming, where their women’s team took 11 out of 13 events. From the outside, it looked like a breakthrough in training and preparation. But systems like that don’t stop at performance… Years later, many of those same athletes began dealing with consequences that went far beyond competition. Liver disease, heart complications, hormonal disruption, and in some cases irreversible physical changes that affected the rest of their lives. One of the most well-known cases is Andreas Krieger, a former shot put athlete who was given large amounts of anabolic substances as a teenager and later transitioned, describing the experience as something that fundamentally altered their identity. What made this different from everything else is that it wasn’t hidden at the individual level. It was organized, documented, and enforced. Refusing the program often meant the end of an athletic career before it even had a chance to begin. Staying in meant access to a system that could take you to the top, but at a cost that wasn’t fully understood at the time. That’s why this period is still one of the most debated in sports history. And also, this is the clearest proof of substance use outside of bodybuilding, even though people only associate that with steroid use. If a system guarantees results, but ignores everything that comes after, what exactly are you measuring when you call it success? #goliathliftzz #buildmusclefast #olympicweightlifting #nattyornot #sportshistory
