@sunnyinkyoto_32: What’s the biggest tourist trap in Kyoto? 🪤👀🇯🇵⛩️ Somebody has to say it, Nishiki Market. Not everything there is a tourist trap, but there are a lot of them. Travelers should watch out for over the top prices. 🤯 -Anything on a Skewer (especially Wagyu or Kobe beef)🥩 -Expensive Sushi 🍣 -Anything that has caviar or sea urchin 🍱 I also included some of my personal recommendations! ✨ Save this video for your next trip to Japan! #Japan #Kyoto #NishikiMarket #KyotoJapan #JapanTrip
We skipped it and instead went to the market in Kanazawa.

In my opinion, the number 1 tourist trap in Kyoto is Rurikōin Temple. One of the most expensive temples I’ve visited in Japan. It was so crowded and all the hype just for a reflection on a table?😭😭

I’ve visited Nishiki Market in Kyoto a few times over the years (2016, 2023, and most recently 2025), and it’s definitely changed. It used to feel more local and relaxed, but now it’s much busier and prices have gone up quite a bit.
That said, it’s still a really vibrant spot with tons of great street food and unique finds—worth experiencing at least once if you’re in Kyoto. Just go in expecting crowds and slightly higher prices, and you’ll enjoy it a lot more.

I have visited 3 times but i have to say theres a massive difference between 2019 Nishiki and 2025. Its losing its charm. In 2019 i remember eating a traditional breakfast in a local spot, sad that it was there now.

I agree 100%!! We were so excited and it was soooo expensive compared to other places around. It had a tourist trap vibe for sure!! Fun to see and take pictures but we had dinner somewhere else 😅
