The teaching hospital at UGA has a veterinary social worker and apparently Blue pearl does too. I definitely wish they were more common.

Humane officers should be investigating these situations. But I know the humane officers often have to focus on the most severe cases because there just aren’t enough (and many unpaid) so I do think a vet social worker could be a good intermediary step
