Johnson signed the Voting Rights Act, which protected Black voting rights by banning discriminatory practices such as literacy tests and other barriers that had been used to prevent Black Americans from voting. These practices are no longer legal, and all citizens are guaranteed equal voting rights under the law. As a result, those former discriminatory methods are not valid today, and such forms of voter suppression are not part of the current legal voting system
