Anna I love your insights but I always giggle because having worked in the US everything is the opposite there. In my very first job interview as a Swedish 26 year old university graduate at an investment bank they asked me about my salary expectations and I gave the normal European response of "what matters more is your employee fostering and management training program" and he flat out said "I don't think this job is for you"....but just then his secretary said he had a call and he stepped out to take it and I'm like panicking...so as soon as he walks in I said "look Scott when I walked into the building I saw a Porsche Turbo and thought to myself working here will get me that in my first year"....and he said now that's what we like, you say the same thing to our VP who I'll take you in now and you'll get the job"...and I did....plus the Porsche 7 months later. Only in the USA would this happen.
