Those Yoruba people carried their language, religion, songs, praise poetry, and Ifá traditions with them. Even though later generations began speaking Spanish in daily life, they still preserved many Yoruba words, prayers, chants, and names inside their religious practices. In Cuba, this became known as Lucumí (a Yoruba-derived religious tradition). So when you hear Yoruba incantations in Cuban religious videos, they were passed down through generations for hundreds of years. Some practitioners in Cuba today even study modern Yoruba to reconnect more deeply with the original language and traditions.
