My husband and I play a lot of tabletop role play games (eg, Dungeons and Dragons) and we're active in the online community, and one time someone posted about how they created a campaign setting for their friends (all men). Each time the person running the game described a character in the setting they made them a woman. Everyone. The blacksmith, the guards, the ruler of the area were all women/femme. This doesn't mean that there were no men, it's just that the person narrating the story didn't volunteer the presence of men. The other players were convinced that this was some kind of conspiracy or a major part of the plot. It wasn't, it's just that the default gender was femme instead of masc like they were used to.
