Where I work both people have to be present and the check holder has to have valid ID and we take the info from the ID. And depending on the customer and their balance might hold the check!

You’d be surprised how many times this happens.. most of the time is just people trying to help friends or family but the bank considers it fraud which technically it is

Lady wanted to cash a transit check made to her and her husband (state return). We told her no bevause 1) check was 10k, transit limit was 400 and 2) her husband wasn't there. She asked to deposit it, we told her it'd get returned because her husband wasn't on the account. She went to the atm and deposited it, and obvs it got returned, and she got mad at us because now she has to wait for her legal copy

this happened to me yesterday and I was panicking for the whole day but luckily my overly cautious nature decided to report it and not hand the money over. mind you the person literally sprung it on me smh.
