I think what people are missing about the sequel is that is highlighted one of the biggest issues in artistic spaces right now. In 2006, a magazine like Runway was defined trends, statements, what was in, what was out, who mattered and who didn’t. In 2006, a designer would change his whole collection because an editor in chief pursed her lips. Twenty years later, we don’t even print magazines anymore. Journalism literature has taken a back seat to Instagram, Pinterest, influencers, short form content, we’re being told what we do and don’t like from popular creators with big social media followings who are paid to tell us, and we’ve eradicated the thought, intention and artistry behind it. And now people like Miranda, who once existed as literal goddesses in this space, are left treading water and fighting for scraps. Every artist across every medium and niche can relate to that struggle right now. The Devil Wears Prada addressed the issues of the industry 20 years ago. The sequel addresses the issues today.

It genuinely was such a good sequel and just like the original I think it really highlighted the struggles of the modern fashion industry (encroachment from AI, lack of individuality and ingenuity, recycling of themes etc etc) just like how the first one critiqued the early 2000s fashion industry (unrealistic body expectations, toxicity in the industry, and the spotlight placed on successful women). It felt like a devil wears prada sequel without being a devil wears prada reboot, it was new and fresh.

my aunt who never talks about this stuff randomly sent me a link to book Hidden Rulers Exposed by Daniel Cyler and just said "read this." no context nothing. i read it in two days and now i understand why she didn't wanna explain over text. the way Daniel Cyler breaks down how systems of control actually operate is insane. not insane like crazy. insane like why doesn't everyone know this

The only bad thing about this movie was that RANDOM ahh love intrest for andy, he was so irrelevant and boring lmao. But honestly people js wanna find an excuse to be negative because other than that it was great!

Son dos películas muy distintas. En la primera está el éxito de Runway, la transformación de una Andy joven e inexperta y una Miranda consolidada, en una época donde podía ser autoritaria y exigente en todos los niveles. En esta nueva entrega vemos a una Miranda más vulnerable, presionada por un mundo corporativo que la desgasta, con una revista en declive por los cambios culturales en el consumo. También encontramos a una Andy más madura y profesional. Esta película tiene muchos mensajes, al igual que la primera, pero cada una cuenta la historia de épocas muy distintas. Si alguien la ve esperando una continuación directa de unos pocos años, tal vez sea mejor quedarse con lo que generó la primera.

Not only was it iconic but it also did a great job showing how jobs like journalism and other versions of human art are dying in the modern world of AI. It also did a good job of showing girlhood in there too. I loved it
