@mariana4hd: One of the hardest parts of Huntington’s disease is realizing it can make people act in ways they never would have before… and it’s not their fault. But that doesn’t take away from the pain it causes. My relationship with my mom has taught me a lot about forgiveness. After she was diagnosed, she did things that really hurt me, and I had to stop living with her permanently when I was 11 because of it. We tried for years to have a relationship, but because of HD, it just wasn’t possible for a long time. It wasn’t until I was 18 that we were finally able to rebuild it. I don’t like sharing this part of our story because I don’t like putting anything negative about my mom online. But I’m sharing this for two reasons: 1. If you love someone with HD and you’re struggling with the behavioral side of it, I want you to know there is hope. Things can get better. 2. I spent so much time being angry at my mom. And I’ve carried a lot of guilt for that. But the truth is, I didn’t understand. No one explained HD to me when I was a kid. Even though it wasn't her fault, that doesn't mean the pain her actions caused me for years was any less real. If I hadn’t learned to forgive her, I never would have gotten my best friend back. But I also had to learn to forgive myself, for not knowing, for being angry, for just being a kid and not knowing what was going on. Love your videos and your story. Can you explain what the behaviors looked like that made you need to separate from her? I have a friend going through this with her parent but I’m not sure where the personal behavior ends and the disease behavior begins. How do you differentiate

I was a young caretaker for our papaw and uncle. The amount of growth you endure, remember to use this to achemize your pain into wisdom to pour onto others. hello beautiful girl I know im a stranger on the internet but you are so very strong. I became a caregiver to my dad at 19 due to stroke (covid induced but still ran in the family) and he cant talk and is paralyzed. I see you and know our journeys and life are different but knowing a medical condition is in our genes is very hard to go through and we got this no matter what.

My mom once told me that I came to her at a time where she needed me most, she was going thru a lot with my dad and getting pregnant with me made get over all the problems she’s was having with him. I’m a mom now and she often tells me even tho it might be hard sometimes God only sends us our children because we need them just as much as they need us and you and your mom are clear example of that✨
