I started swimming lessons about two weeks ago and this is something I struggle with. I can do the kick but I feel like I'm straining the muscles in my legs and making myself unnecessarily tired I'm going to talk to my swim coach about it next week.

it’s misleading to say “keep your legs straight.” it makes a lot of beginners think they should minimize undulation. actually, DO bend your knees, but do not kick from them. kick from the hips, keep your toes pointed straight, and let the rest of your legs flow naturally
