@wregnewschannel3: A group of Death Row exonerees in Tennessee is asking Gov. Bill Lee to stop the execution of a man convicted of a 1994 triple murder in Memphis. Tony Carruthers is scheduled to be put to death on May 21 for the murders of Frederick Tucker, along with Delois and Marcellos Anderson. Prosecutors said the victims were kidnapped, tortured, and buried alive in a grave beneath a coffin at a Memphis cemetery. Carruthers has always maintained his innocence. In 2010, Carruthers' co-defendant in the murders said Carruthers was not involved in the crime and instead named James Irving, a man with an extensive criminal history, as his co-defendant. Irving is deceased, but there are calls to test his DNA to determine if it matches fingerprint evidence collected from the victim’s home, in an effort to exonerate Carruthers. #wreg3memphis #wregnewschannel3 #wreg
