Interesting. I’d say Conan is sword and sorcery rather than epic fantasy though. And nowadays it’s the opposite - most publishers won’t accept long books especially from new writers as they don’t work out economically with publishing and warehouses costs

i love a chunky fantasy book once in a while, i absolutely adore chinese fantasy which often amounts to thousands of pages, but i also really like when i can go on a shorter jaunt! like, the earthsea books have plenty of worldbuilding but le guin is so effective with her writing that each one is only around 200 pages and it's Perfect.

anything more than 600pages is too much.. and that's coming from a cosmere fan.. I'm reading sun eater now which i think (cos in read digitally) they come in at over 600pages, i can do them in 4-5 sittings but they don't half drag on sometimes.. and i love the stories but could they tell them in less words please lol

This is also true for English study books. Very thick and takes ages to read but with as little contents as a thin book.

Elric of Melinbone isn’t the entire of the Elric Saga. There’s dozens of books in that series and the entire series itself is just a small part of a Moorcocks ‘Eternal Champion’ saga.
