My cardiologist still wants me on simvas 20mg with my ldl at 90+ I asked him straight to help me ve below 70 and he said this is not necessary. Should I just move myself from simvas to atorvastatin?

So it should be under 70? Mine is 80 and I thought was normal. My cardiologist now wants to up my 10mg crestor to 20mg. I guess this is the reason.

What’s lost on this analysis is the side effects of this aggressive statin therapy. If you can’t sleep because of hip or leg pain due to high dosage statins then what’s the point ??

Agree. The guidelines are just way off and complicated. we need to just say, keep your LDL-C under 55 and call it a day.

I work in a large cardiology practice. The cardiologist I work for has been using an LDL 55 for about a year. She is the only one in the practice that has adopted that protocol.

This is why I cringe when I hear “I had normal cholesterol.” Turns out normal was too high.

$555/month is f’ng ridiculous for 2 injections of Repatha. Equally ridiculous is the fight with the insurance company over the price gouging. Consumers are stuck in the middle. It is absolute horseshit that consumers have to weigh the risks/benefits of affording medications that actually work without side effects.

Why are some of you sooo polarized as medical specialists on this topic and its treatment? Some of you are pushing statins like a vending machine and some of you are educating how cholesterol helps us, where it’s located and what statins do to cholesterol and associated vitamins

Yes, as someone who has a family history of heart conditions, I was checked out at 65 and pronounced in excellent health. Two years later, I had to have emergency CABGx3. Just had my LP(a) checked and it is over 240. I’m on rosuvastatin and Repatha and hope that it will help prevent future incidents, however, I realize much of the damage is done. Too little too, late!

There was once a belief that patients with extremely low LDL were more susceptible to malignancy. Never knew what that was about.

my father apparently had a CAC of 200+ in 2022, an lpa of 120.... eventually got a romi work up in the fall for shoulder pain. you know what his lipid regimen was after diligent follow-up with his PCP and cardiologist after those events and findings? 5mg rosuvastatin only cause LDL was "ok" in the 80s... I was furious

After 20 plus years with multiple events , cabg x 3 , 20+ stents and failed cabg . With repatha and zetia my ldl is finally down to 16 . I wish I had this 30 years ago .

I came to the same conclusion myself a few years ago first, it was a 100 then it was 75. Then, it was 55 And my ejection fraction is down to 30. i pushed my cardiologist a little harder, I read all the european journals, and while he doesn't completely agree with where i'm going, we've got it under thirty. If i'm still here in ten years, I'll be eighty five. And I'll consider the experiments a success

I was on Crestor 20 mg and Zetia. My LDL was 75 and my Lp(a) was 185. After 8 injections of Repatha (4 months) now LDL is 25 and Lp(a) is 120(!).

If there’s no risk from “over treatment “ why not go low early ? 40 mg rosuvastatin, 10 mg ezetimibe and 10g psyllium gets me into the 30’s(ldl-c) and it costs around $100/year.

Thank you for this doc!!! People need to hear it. There’s no side effect to very low serum ldl, aggressive treatment is the right way to go. I wish my doctors did this with me when I was younger. And I wish the scum bag medfluencers from the carnivore and keto camp would have been silenced for harmful misinformation by all social media platforms. I wouldn’t have had as bad atherosclerosis. Now I’m on Repatha with ldl about 45 mgdl. If even consider Zetia to lower it further.
