This is why i give my son the “you never know what darkness some kids might be coming home to. So be their light.” Talk every year before school starts. He listens and takes it to heart. His teachers say there’s not a single kid he won’t be friends with.

I remember I couldn’t sit down because there was too many welts on my back side. My teacher asked me why I wasn’t taking my seat and I told her. She made me a teachers helper that day. I stayed up all class passing things out and helping other students. After that she would always check on me before and after the weekend.

I need more teachers to realise that students home life is the reason some students don't try in school, the stress in their personal life is already bad enough and then with the added stress from school makes it even more unbearable.

When I was younger my teacher would put a movie on and take her time to brush my hair because I had nobody at home to help me so it was always super knotted, I’ll always remember her.

Shout out to my high school soccer coach who knew something was going on without me ever saying anything. He waited with me for a ride that never came after every practice, offered me a job, still wishes me a happy bday 12 years later, made me team captain, and told me how proud he was of me. He was the only adult that actually saw me and really looked out for me. Thank you to every adult that goes out of their way for these kids. It means everything and you might be all they have at that time!
