But they learn in the process and become better engineers, I don’t agree it’s time wasted, it’s all about balance, if EKS fails and you understand every syscall and are able to capture traffick and understand it suddenly you don’t need to wait for external support but you are an engineer and troubleshoot and fix in the moment

If you spend 60 and use about 10% of the product, then it is better to build it on your own. You can make it better for your personal experience. But I agree that if you really use majority of the product and it simply is worth that 60 you are wasting your time. Unless you want to learn and eventually showcase your own implementation and open source it for others to use.
