@the_control_code: Sunday I posted about a study of 68 incarcerated men describing the coercive control patterns they ran on their partners before the violence turned lethal. Coercive control is the strongest lethality predictor in intimate relationships. 5M views later, the comments filled up with women saying “that was him. I almost didn’t make it out.” And people are still saying that’s not enough data. The comments ARE the study. Part 2 coming. #coercivecontrol #intimatepartnerviolence #survivorstories #thecontrolcode #BookTok
I didn't comment on the coercive control signs video, I did watch it, and something sat with me. I knew I was in an abusive relationship 2 years ago, I tried multiple times to self delete, which I'm very ashamed of. but I never thought I would have been in danger from my partner, yet all the signs were there. I think that's why I feel like it happened to another person, I escaped death. I wouldn't exist if I had stayed any longer. So thankyou for your videos, they are important and informative and validating.

I am a survivor, coercive control was my everyday for 23 years. I did not comment on the original video, but yes for me as well. I thought he was going to kill me. The longer I am out of it the more the veil is lifted. Healing is lonely work.

If you ever want to turn this into a study that can be peer reviewed and published please reach out. I’m currently working on my PhD in physiology and health. My dissertation is a meta analysis and systematic review of studies regarding meditations effect on women with PTSD. This qualitative evidence can be turned into something that can statistically evaluated. I have SPSS and would love to dive into more women’s studies and what trauma looks like for them. Let’s tell their story!

One of the hardest costs of being a survivor is feeling that your lived experience is seen as invalid. If your platform is helping those women feel seen and persuading others to help them feel seen as well, you are doing a very good thing in this world. 🥰

Try to remember that there are bots out there designed to keep us pissed off at each other. We're arguing with bots more than we even realize.

Ppl forget that anecdotal evidence is a legitimate form of data collection. It’s PERSONAL anecdotal evidence in an argument that’s invalid.

“The comments are the study”. Corrrrect. I’ve participated in psych research. Public interview data is often used as valuable evidence. If majority of responses align, it usually has a 99% chance that it will be used in the conclusion section of the study as leading evidence of outcome.

It’s qualitative data. And anecdotal evidence always comes before the “data”. (I was a researcher in the past).

Hey. I've been thinking for a while we need to crowd fund research on stuff like this. Identify the most cost efficient methods to conduct the research and maybe even take votes on what we study, and or which things are studied first.
