The 1 mile (1.6 km) long beach is known for purple patches of sand that are occasionally visible, especially after rain. The purple color is caused by Manganese garnet that is eroded down from nearby hillsides. Pfeiffer Beach is a hidden gem along the Big Sur coastline. However, access to the beach may be limited after heavy rain due to flooding. Be sure to check the official website for updates on its availability. The parking lot is small, so plan accordingly.
