i feel like not a lot of people know that it was about that trauma, so people who didnt know likely interpreted the song to be more catered to THEIR OWN experience like humans NATURALLY do with art. Even if they did know, yes people who have went through the same situation are more likely to resonate with the song more, but once an artist releases their art to the world, it is out there for the people and the world to connect to. i think disregarding the artist's perspective is extremely rude, but that doesnt mean it should not be up for interpretation at all. Interpretation and perspective is what art is all about. So yes, of course we should acknowledge the original meaning of a song to REALLY understand the piece, but no we should not limit it to that one meaning be because perspective and interpretation is what makes us human and it is what makes art ART
