@504_girl_: The educators have been saying for years before the pandemic that there is a true literacy problem. A lot of parents do not want to believe it or address it. A lot of parents feel that is the responsibility of the school and it is not. #Li#Literacyl#Illiteratee#ReadAloud
I was just talking to my husband about this. Bring back phonics, read aloud, and physical books!

They young man commented on TSR and said the board is going to allow him to participate in prom and graduation. I guess a lot of people pressured the board.

My 9 year old absolutely hates it but we go to the library a few times a month and she reads aloud every day. She will thank me later

I remember weekly spelling test and the words I missed were to be written out 100 times each when I got home. My mom didn’t play that at all.

My mother was a reader! An avid reader! I love reading! My kids all had library cards at the age of 5….my grandson was not allowed to get a phone until he was 10 for this reason! Grab that book and use your imagination! I love to read and as a nurse sometimes my schedule won’t allow time for it but my hubby surprised me and purchased me a good read and I am back to where I used to be! Reading helps me disconnect from my phone and all the other crap going on in the world today! I honestly thank my parents and my KINDERGARTEN teacher she instilled the importance of reading she also taught all 3 of my daughters and they also love reading! It’s a team effort but it begins in the home….THE DAMN HOME!

Facts. my 17 isn't a big reader but has always been a good reader. You can't stop my 14 yr old from reading. My father instilled the love of reading in me and I passed it on to my children. it truly starts at home.

I remember sitting in class in elementary school and we had to read aloud; you had to know when it was your turn. We also had spelling tests every week.

It’s time for parents to start reading to their kids. Parents are the first teachers, school is to supplement what’s started at home.

I have books for my granddaughter just like I did for her mom. She already knows we're reading at Gigi's house just like at her house. About to get more books for over the summer. Might need to do some spelling tests too.
