While diving Nusa Penida offers perhaps the world's most famous opportunities, especially during the cooler season (typically July-Oct), these gentle giants can sometimes surprise divers exploring the waters around Lembongan and Bali at other times too. They often visit shallower reefs for a very important reason... 🧖‍♀️🐟 Why do these primarily open-ocean dwellers approach the reef? Usually, it's for a vital 'spa treatment' at cleaning stations! Smaller fish like bannerfish and wrasse bravely pick parasites off the Mola's skin. This incredible symbiotic relationship highlights the critical link between pelagic life and healthy reef ecosystems, showcasing the rich biodiversity Nusa Penida diving is celebrated for.
