@rahrah_health: When the other content teachers walk by my room and ask “HOW DO YOU TEACH THIS?” 🫣😬 My reply: “How do you teach {insert any other content area}?” I’ve been with these 8th graders for 3 years. We have a rapport. I don’t answer ALL of their questions in front of the entire class, especially if it’s unrelated to what we’ve been learning about OR if it would be more harmful than helpful. Sometimes I’ll write the answer on the post-it and let them know I’ve answered their question & allow them to take it back so they can read it privately. And for parents saying “this should be left up to the family.”Valid. I’m thankful to teach in a more progressive community. But also, when was the last time your child felt they had an opportunity to ask these types of questions?
i'd be so upset if i saw my teacher roasting a genuine question i had on tiktok wtf

It feels invasive to read these publicly

I got “Can people get neutered” in a question box once. It’s soooo important to be able to answer EVERY question respectfully, openly and age-appropriately. But this one still gives me the giggles a decade later.

it’s always better for sexual health information to come from a trusted adult!

She is definitely not roasting anyone’s questions and honestly, it’s so so great to hear the questions kids are asking because then we can give them factual answers

I read in a parenting book that when kids ask the questions, it means they've already given it thought and they're ready to know.

As a single parent whose kids know i will answer anything (but know they wont always ask me) thank you for answering the hard questions.

While I did giggle at how some of these are worded, these questions can lead to great conversations about health! The trust these kids have in you is amazing to see 🥰

These are all well thought out 8th grade questions. As a fellow 8th grade teacher I am proud of these questions.

I am also a middle school health teacher and I love my anonymous questions box. I’d much rather have them ask me! Who knows what they’ll find if they google!

MRS RHODEEN. OMG you did anonymous questions from a jar for us all year and it was such a great space to learn in a safe environment. I tell everyone about how incredible my health education was in middle school all the time!

Besides the usual info that gets covered, please make sure you are teaching them empathy for how much pain women have to go through with periods and that it isn't the butt of jokes.

Thank you for explaining this to kids bc i 100% agree that if they google it would be worst. I missed the entire week of school we were taught about this and I did have to google in the future 🥲

I used to teach fourth grade, and when we talked about puberty, my favorite notecard said “Why do we have to talk about it!?”
