Teach your dog to go to his place. “Place!” and he goes to his place. It can be on a mat in the living room where he can see the door. Always tell him “place!” and reward him with treats while he is in his place. Once he learns to go to his place and stay there have a friend ring the doorbell. Tell him to “place” and do not open the door until your dog is in his place and staying there. When my dog learned that his job was to sit in his place and “watchem!” he got so proud! He had a job! Now, whenever the doorbell rings he automatically goes to his place. That’s his job. It does not involve barking. It involves sitting quietly and watching them!
