My boyfriend gets SO MUCH hate because he doesn’t work a normal 9-5. Instead he chooses to work whenever he wants, and spends more time with his family. Or he does jobs that can include the family and teaches the kids how to do things. Now, it hasn’t been without struggle, but we are free to do whatever we want most of the time and we’re able to do it together. We don’t have to say “dad can’t come because he is at work” he can schedule his work around the fun in the summer. It’s great. People prioritize work over joy and that just doesn’t work for us. We have everything we need, including each other ❤️

Honestly I’ve noticed this in workplaces. When coworkers don’t see you trying to climb up this invisible ladder or fight for the number one spot they get annoyed or feel like I’m looking down on them. I’m not personally lol I’m just not about to waste my time climbing an invisible ladder that I have no guarantee on reaching the top

this is really making me realize... this is why I feel so out of place where I live. I have no problem being myself, or being perceived.. I just don't like feeling like I have to take on cultural judgement for it , or like now ... it's being sold back to me now that some of my hobbies are more popular!!!

As a free-spirited daughter coming from a mother who had to be practical-forward from a young age, I had to stop telling her some things lol. LOVE her down but we just aren’t in the same head space ..

there's also a split between "unemployed friend on a random Tuesday afternoon" and "she can do anything she wants" mentality too- I've found when I was the random unemployed friend- still w part time jobs, freelance, and my own biz!! My friends at the time would become polarized to my activities like they needed to emotionally approve my decisions.. worst thing was I wanted opinions! I wanted to grow my life a LOT- with my friends 😭 Lone wolf 4 Life

As a Tejana who romanticized moving to Mexico long term I had the same thought process. I now live in Hawaii which also has cultural "setbacks" where it is normalized to swallow your grievances to maintain harmony, for example. Just an observation.
