@wordswithbones: The car that launched Korea’s 72 billion dollar automotive industry was a frankensteined-up handmade Jeep replica, the name of which was also one of Korea’s strongest swear words. #koreanculture #koreancar #automotive #koreancars #carhistory

JamITUp :
The Hyundai Pony used engines supplied by Mitsubishi Motors. It wasn’t just loosely influenced—the early Pony models were built with actual Mitsubishi engines, along with other key mechanical components like transmissions and parts of the suspension.
In practice, that means the Pony’s core engineering came largely from Mitsubishi, including small inline-4 engines from their “Saturn” family. Meanwhile, Hyundai handled the assembly, production, and branding of the car.
So the Pony was really a collaborative effort: Mitsubishi provided the mechanical backbone, while Hyundai built and sold the vehicle under its own name. This partnership helped Hyundai gain experience, which eventually allowed the company to move on and develop its own engines and technology later on.
