cyclists are not allowed to ride on the pavement to undertake vehicles in the UK. According to Rule 64 of The Highway Code and Section 72 of the Highway Act 1835, riding on the pavement is illegal, even if it is to avoid traffic.

Why did you use the path? Are you allowed to go from road to path and back again as you see fit?
