@freerangepigeon: Replying to @Rostbaerdt go ask your friends from big families which sibling is the middlest child it’s fun #family #Siblings #birthorder
I also think about how the birth order of the parent has an impact on the child. Like, it’s different being the eldest daughter of an eldest daughter than of a youngest child you know?

I hate when people say the youngest is coddled and spoiled, I was bullied/ignored a lot of the time

I think there's also a phenomenon when there's a huge age gap between siblings, like twenty years or more. So, one of you has grown up and left your hometown before the other is born. Then the relationship feels much more like an aunt/uncle, rather than a sibling relationship.

I’m the eldest ‘daughter’ of 3, but the middle of 9 adopted, and the sister directly above me is a dethroned baby and she hates all of us ‘new kids’ (the 5 adopted) and even though she and I were 6 months apart, she’d be grouped with the ‘big kids’ and because 2 of the younger siblings were my biological siblings, I would be grouped in with the ‘little kids’ as their eldest daughter sister

I’m the eldest of 9 children but we’re also kind of split into two groups? Not by age or circumstances… literally just vibes. I’m the oldest daughter and then we have G, G, B, B… second boy is the “baby” of the firstborn kids. He’s technically the middle kid but has absolutely no middle child energy tbh. And then we have G, G, B, B and it’s like we restarted the cycle and the eldest girl of that group is also essentially the oldest daughter. It hurts me tbh because as the eldest daughter I see her carrying a lot she wouldn’t need to. I remember doing the same at her age and I guess part of me still instinctively wants to because I’d rather carry those things for her so she can just be one of the youngest kids instead of an eldest daughter.

my older brother is 6 1/2 years older than me and I am 8 1/2 years older than my younger brother. I am definitely the oldest daughter but my little brother has a different dad than me so I am my dad‘s youngest child so I’m definitely babied by him. while my younger brother is definitely the baby of the family. He is also partially an only child because my older brother moved out when he was 4 and I moved out when he was 8. I was also 11 when my older brother moved out.

can you do one with an only child that grew up with cousins older than you and when you are mature

I’m technically a middle child but my older sister is a half sister who is 13 years older than me and who moved out quite young, so I feel like the oldest of two, not the middle of three.

I’m the youngest of 8, there’s 16 years between me and the eldest, the eldest is a boy and got married at 19 (I was 3): same parents to all 8

I love this cause I always think a lot of birth order discussions only apply to the typical 2 parent house with kids 2-3 years apart. My family was me, 8 years gap and another marriage to my twin siblings (b/g). So I’m so far into eldest daughter it’s laughable, but the twins are a unit in a lot of ways but because of gender we’re also treated differently and they had the other house to go to but not me… it’s weird.

I'm sorta in that last category but it gets even weirder. my siblings are technically half siblings but they lived with my parents so they've always felt like normal siblings except they are much older so they left when I was still young kinda making me an only child later in life. also they have another half sibling on their dad's side and everyone is pretty amicable so he's also like my little brother that I barely see. also their grandmother treated me as her own and called me (and my "cousins" who both me and her were not technically related to) her grandchildren-in-love. I miss her

I’m the baby eldest daughter. There is only two of us. B/G 5 year age gap. My niece however was an only child for 10 years. I have a one and done. Those two consider each other siblings (3 yr age gap) because they spent most of their young childhoods together due to work schedules and such. When my nephew was born he was considered a cousin by my child. They are not as close as my son and niece. It’s really interesting how family dynamics play out. I’m more of a grandmother to my nieces toddlers than I am a great aunt because I was a second mom to her.

No, you’re right — it is cool. Because if you really wanted to get into it? I suppose I depending on how you look at it, I am the oldest, middle, and youngest daughter. Which makes no sense at face value because it’s not just some trick — I am not the only daughter. Eldest sibling — trans (FTM). But even before they came out, I’ve always been the acting eldest daughter (I appreciate finally having a term for it!). Youngest half sibling — I’ve never met her, we were not raised together at all — I am my mother’s youngest daughter. What is technically true (like me being the middle daughter, but the youngest/only daughter in my immediate family unit) is not necessarily someone’s lived reality.

Adopted only child to an eldest daughter (mom has 8 siblings). I feel like such an eldest daughter but I’m one of the youngest of my cousins.
